Make Today Beautiful

My DIY Circus Wedding - Our Five Year Vow Renewal!

Jeffrey and I met in Kingston Tennessee in 2008. It was love at first sight. It took one look at him and I knew he was the one for me.. I haven never met someone so perfect for me. Every day since I met him, I fall more and more in love with him.
We have been together and married actually for over five years now! We really wanted to do something special and I wanted to have that big gypsy wedding I have been dreaming about for years.
OH MY GOSH WEDDINGS ARE THE MOST MONEY EVER! We paid for everything our selves and we quickly realized that we weren't going to be able to really afford what we wanted. Well me, Jeffrey, and our family and friends are pretty crafty and resourceful. We figured out what were the really important things to us and how to make it happen. Let me tell you I have never had so many craft projects at once! None of it would have been possible with out our amazing family and friends who worked their butts off. But we pulled it off beautifully and it was really cheap for a wedding and the best day of my life.
Please enjoy the song that I chose to walk down to my adorable husband to as well.

DIY Project: The Perfect Shoes

I DIY-ed my bridal shoes for my circus themed "I do" re-do, and I have to say I couldn't be happier with how they turned out!

Warning: this post/tutorial is picture heavy. =)

So without further ado, here they are!

What you'll need:

1. Faux leather shoes
2. One bottle of Mod Podge Gloss-Lustre
3. One-two bottles of glitter (I actually bought three containers each slightly different shade of teal. I really couldn't make up my mind, so I mixed all three to create my own "custom" look).
4. Small paintbrush
5. Sponge brush
6. Small bowl for mixing
7. Painters tape (optional)
8. Snand paper
9. Acrylic paint (optional)
10. Mod Podge clear acrylic sealer spray

Directions:
I used black faux leather shoes that I previously bought from Target. Take sandpaper and rub the surface of the shoe vigorously (you'll want to make it to where it's not shiney anymore). This also creates little lines and grooves for the glitter to stick better.

Take a small bowl and fill it with some Mod Podge (I eyeball these next few steps). Next, take your glitter and pour it into the same bowl (you want a good amount of glitter, again I just eyeball it so you can can add as much as you feel you need to. Mix glue and glitter.

With your paintbrush start painting your shoe! I alternated between the sponge and paint brush. The paintbrush is good for smaller areas where detail is important. The sponge brush is good for covering large areas. As you work, you'll probably start to notice that the mixture is white, but don't fret it will dry clear!

Let the first coat dry fully and then paint another layer on (or two depending on how thick your mixture is). I painted one shoe at a time. Let them dry and then repeat the steps.

When the shoes are dry, spray them with clear sealant to ensure glitter sticks. The Mod Podge already does a great job, and I didn't notice any loose glitter coming off, but I took the extra precaution.

That's it! Pretty easy, right?! The whole process took me about two days to finish.

Dem Lumps II

I am in so much pain right now. I got out of my surgery and they said I did great and I even lost two pounds! I'm feeling slimmer already ;). The surgeon said the mass in my back weighed about 1.5 pounds, oh my gosh that's CRAZY! The one on my leg wasn't as big but he said he's pretty sure it would have gotten bigger if it stayed. I get to sport this fashionable gauze for two weeks, and not to mention I have a drain pipe in my back. Hope you're not eating anything while you read my blog. Sorry if you are though.

I just hope I can walk and not bleed all over myself at our I do redo. I would really hate to get blood all over that pretty dress. I find out three days before the wedding what the lumps were. I'm really praying they are nothing! On a lighter note, I've got some cute nurses to keep me entertained while I rest in bed. :-)

My lumps, my lovely fatty lumps.

After 7:45 this morning these massive lumps will be gone!

I've been carrying the one on my back for six years and it's the size of your fist now! I finally had a doctor who had a brain and wanted to take these immediately out. It felt like all the other doctors I saw never took mine or my families history of cancer seriously and just said ''oh you'll be fine'' then sent me on a way with no questions answered.

When I finally found a doctor who was concerned for me enough she ended up being about a 65 minute drive away from our home town. That was a really long way for me specially with the kids, they always get so irritable in the car if they have to sit there for a while (and what kid doesn't?). The first day I came into her office she took one look at it and said ''wow looks like you've been feeding this baby good!'' haha and that was the truth, I've been feeding this baby lots of stress, fat, and everything else it may have taken from me while it nested in my back for most of my young adult life.

But I'm so thankful she didn't think twice about removing it, God really blessed me here and answered a long prayer. I'm nervous about this. I'm terrified what they will find, and what scare me even more is the fact that I don't do well anesthesia. I have scared myself silly and am convinced that I may die. I'm not kidding. I wrote at my living will, got my bank accounts set up, and a list of things that Jeffrey was supposed to do. I guess it's always a good thing to be prepared, but I don't know how many times he told me that I was being silly. Which I'm sure when I look back on this whole mess, I'm sure I will think so too.

But I still can't help but be nervous.
