The Taste Of Asheville, NC: Doc Chey's Noodle House

Hey readers!

Mr. Fresh Heart and I are teaming up together to bring you a review of our dinning experiences in Asheville North Carolina! So every other week, we will be reviewing a different restaurant for all of you. If you have a place that you want us to check out and review leave your comment bellow!

This week we're reviewing :
 Doc Chey's Noodle House

At first glance, the restaurant is really small. There are only two one stall bathrooms at the main entrance, so if you have to use the bathroom you're going to have to wait in line. The bathrooms are located at the waiting area which is a very narrow and cramped hallway when you first enter the restaurant. Half the time I was confused by who was in line for the bathroom and who was in line to get seated.

The hostess greeted us and she was very sweet however, we did have to wait roughly about 10-15 minutes to be seated at a table, which wasn't that big of a deal for us. We came a little after 3 o'clock on a Sunday and it was still pretty busy. The seating area is really cramped though, I felt like everyone was sitting on top of each other while they were eating and you could hear all the conversations of everyone sitting around you. So it was a combination of hearing people slurping their food and talking. There was hardly any room to walk around the tables, people and waitresses. I had to get up a few times with the baby even while wearing him and carrying the diaper bag and it was just a really cramped and uncomfortable situation. So if your claustrophobic like I am, keep that in mind. I wish they offered outside dinning to ease the stress of the overcrowding.

The food however, is really good! I ordered the gluten free Beef Pad Thai noodle bowl and Mr. Fresh Heart ordered the gluten free Chicken Pad Thai and both dishes were very delicious, flavorful and filled our bellies. The price is pretty affordable for those of you who are on a budget and you defiantly getting a rather large portion serving wise. They served us two pretty large bowls and they were filled to the very top. I do feel like two people could easily split one bowl together. Our waitress was very on top of things and always refilling our glasses with water even when they were hardly half way empty. So the service in that aspect was very good.

So what do we rate this restaurant?

If you can get over the cramped quarters, it's defiantly a good restaurant to try. The food is really good and the hospitality and friendliness of the staff is great (which totally makes up for how over crowded it is).  We give this place a 3.5 handle bar mustache rating.

May Favorites & Empties In Review!

Hey everyone!

I'm starting a new series on the blog all about my favorites and emptied products that I use over the course of the month. I'm going to try and not limit this to just beauty products since I am a mom of three as well.  So here we go!

(via: Amazon)
Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Rejuvenating Oil Elixir: Ok, let me start off with that fact this product smells SO delicious.  I get so many compliments from people (including Mr. Fresh Heart) when I apply this (which is daily). Because my hair is color treated and very wavy in texture, my hair tends to be a little frizzy at times. And I've noticed a significant different/improvement with my hair since using this product; it really does a great job with conditioning my hair. As far as the shine does, I couldn't tell much because even though I do have a little frizz my hair is pretty healthy and shines naturally anyway. The oil/elixir isn't as think as some of the other hair serums I've used before and a little goes a long way.  I'll definitely will be repurchasing this product.

(Via: Amazon)

Anna Sui La Vie De Boheme:  I have used this perfume as my go-to everyday perfume for two years now. It's sweet yet musky that also doesn't have an overbearing or overwhelming floral scent. However, it doesn't last long. So I do have to reapply it at least two or three times throughout the day. Which is kind of a big deal considering the prince for the tiny bottle of product you're getting. The bottle is small enough for easy carry but due to it not lasting as long, you do go through quite a bit of it. I'm almost done with my bottle that I repurchased and I think I am going to retire this scent for me and try something else.

Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes, 25 Count: Though the packing on the front says ultra calming, it still gave me a burning sensation on my face after I used this product. It also didn't get all the makup residue off my face, and left it still feeling dirty. I will not be repurchasing it.

(via: Amazon)
Sultra The Bombshell Rod Curling Iron: I love this curling wand and I cannot say enough about how awesome it is! It does heat rather quickly and you only need to wrap your hair around it and hold it for a few seconds. I have very thick hair medium length hair that hardly holds a curl when I use other wands but I find when I use this wand my curls stay for days! I highly recommend this!

(via: Sephora)
Benefit Cosmetics The Big Easy Liquid To Powder SPF 35 Foundation: I love Benefit but I am SO disappointed in this "BB cream". Like a lot of the other users have stated, it clings to dry spots on your face and it makes it look very cakey once applied. Even with a moisturizer and primer applied. I've used other BB's and the consistency of this one is very thick which makes the application process a little bit much (more time than I'd like to spend since I'm a busy mom of 3). It's basically putting on sun screen lotion on your face and and that's what it smells like too. It does have a very matte finish, once applied. Which is something I don't want considering I want a more dewy/supple finish in the spring and summer seasons. Coverage definitely needs improvement, I found myself reapplying it more than I wanted to throughout the day. It did clog up my pours so when I did use it I felt like I really needed to scrub my face more. Unfortunately as much as I love Benefit, I cannot recommend this product.

NYX S126 Bohemian Chic Nude Matte Collection: I love this pallet for every day to even evening wear! The colors are extremely pigmented and super easy to blend. I have fair skin and all of the colors looked lovely on me. The blushes were an added bonus! I really loved the peach blush that's included in this pallet. NYX is supper affordable for those who are on a budget but want high quality makeup or just starting into makeup. I highly recommend this pallet for girls with fair skin (really any skin tone) too!

(via: drugstore)
NYX Butter Lipstick, Licorice: This color is gorgeous and so stunning on my fair skin. I always get compliments when I wear it. The formula is great too, it's smooth, buttery and moisturizing! The color lasts for a while too with minimal touch ups. The price is great for those on a budget and seek high quality makeup and lipstick at a fraction of the cost.

NYX Nude On Nude Palette: I really loved the eye shadows, they were extremely pigmented and super easy to blend. I bought this because a lot of the colors were dupes to Urban Decays' Naked pallet. However, I could have done without the glosses, they are extremely sticky and just seemed like low quality. Which was super shocking since majority of NYX products I have are high quality.

Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate: This is by far the most potent anti-aging eye concentrate I've used on myself. It's a bit more on the expensive side however, for all you moms out there wanting preventative care or grandmothers needing restorative lifting, this is everything you need. I applied it at night before I went to sleep and not only did it lighten my dark circles but it brightened my under eyes significantly! Like I said before it is pretty expensive, but a little goes a long way! I bought my bottle a while ago and still haven't put much of a dent in it. Great purchase, totally worth the money spent!

(via: Sephora)

Origins GinZing™ Refreshing Eye Cream: I got a deluxe size sample of this from Sephora as a 100 point perk and I'm absolutely love this and in addition will be buying the full size when my sample runs out. Not only does this de-puff and hydrate my under eyes, it lightened my dark circles! I struggle with dark circles which makeup doesn't cover very well and although it didn't bug me too much, I'm really glad they've gone away. I do notice them slowly coming back after not using the eye cream for about a week, but if I only skip a few days the dark circles stay gone. It also has an almost shimmery effect without any actual shimmer that brightens the eyes without looking odd. I highly recommend this eye cream if you have mildly to moderately dark under eyes.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser: It simply cleanses the face and is great for my sensitive skin. I have searched high and low for a gentle cleanser that doesn't make my skin burn that also does an incredible job with cleaning my face. Any FAB products are simply put: amazing! They are very affordable and are effective products for those like me who have very sensitive skin. It's great for those who have eczema and psoriasis as well. It's smooth and fragrance free and great when you follow up with the Ultra Repair cream too.

Books Worth Reading: The Girl Who Chased the Moon

Let me start off by saying this:

If Julia Child and Practical Magic had a baby, this book would be it. It's full of food, mischief and magic with a little bit of romance thrown in.

I love anything that Sarah Addison Allen writes. She paints a vivid picture in your head of the story she is telling you. Not to mention she writes beautifully and her books are easy to read and get sucked into.

When I read this I devoured it in a day, it's highly entertaining and addictive I feel like the characters in her books are old friends after hearing their stories, that manage to reach out and touch my heart.

This story that she tells here is utterly charming that I absolutely
loved it. The story line is simple but it's also incredibly irresistible.

This is a love story but, it's also something so more reading beyond the words. It's about finding a place when you feel so out of place. It's about regrets, mistakes, redemption, magic and mystery.

Julia's story focuses on her regret all though reformed, haunted by memories of past mistakes. While Emily story focuses on magic, mystery and a mother that she thought she knew. The men in there lives, Sawyer and Win, equally won my heart, both filled with wonderful southern charm and sexy smiles.

Do It Yourself Wednesday : Moroccan Tile Canvas

Hey lovelies!

So this project I did for my daughters room, to give it a touch of boho chic, whimsy, and a POP of color! It's two 11x14 canvases and one 16x20 canvas with the Moroccan tile painted on them. This project took me about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.

I purchased all of my supplies at Michael's art supply store. Here is what you need:

  • FolkArt paint stencil in moroccan tile
  • Folkart multi-surface paint in your choice of color.
  • Sponge brush or paint brush
  • Tape (optional)
  • Canvas in sizes 11x14 and 16x20
  • Paper plate & paper towel
Directions:
  1. First with the desired base paint, paint the entire canvas and let it dry (or you can leave it white and skip this step). For Chloe, I did Pink Rouge as my base and Berry Wine for the design.
  2. Open your stencil and place it on the surface of your canvas. You can tape it down with painters tape or washi tape to help secure it to the canvas.
  3. Grab the desired paint color for the tile design and begin painting! I used a paper plate for my paint and used a paper towel to sponge off excess paint. The stencil is small, so you do have to go section by section on the canvas.
  4. Here is a helpful tip: You can brush paint this however, I found (out the hard way) that when you a use a sponge brush (stencil brush) the application is much better and easier and the paint doesn't bleed through and doesn't make a mess as you are removing the stencil to move to the next portion.

The paint dries pretty quickly so you can move to the next section of the canvas rapidly.
Once you've finished and let it dry completely, hang and enjoy!

How a non-believer came back to Christ.

I don't normally share this part of my life but, this year has been my turning point in my faith and it has been a crazy and emotional year!
I've always been a Christian and raised in church, and tired my hardest to be a good follower of Christ. But the last six years have been difficult for me. With more tears and heartache that I would like to admit and with all the emotional and physical abuse I endured had lead me away from God.
For a while I even questioned why. Why was God being so mean to me? I began to wonder if there was really a God. Because why on earth would he have let so much heartache happen to someone so young.
It was like I was a tiny ant and God was the cruel child putting a magnifying glass on me only burning me enough to keep me alive. And that's what it had felt like for so many years. I felt like God just wasn't on my side at all and I finally started to not believe anymore.
After my mom died and my marriage crumbled, I ran wild seeking love from anyone and it was always the wrong kind of love. I let people abuse me mentally and physically thinking it was love. I put myself in a bad situation that left me broken and it was that very moment that ultimately led me to give my life to God and trusting him fully.
This time last year, it was Mothers Day and this person who was in my life put me in a situation that I was honestly terrified of. They promised me a lot of things to keep me, they lied to me, they abused me emotionally and took advantage of me. When it finally ended I was devastated, confused and broken. But that's what the enemy does to us, they break us, make us feel unworthy, and suffocate us with so much darkness it makes us feel like there is no hope. That we will never get help or see the light.
At the time I wasn't seeing God, I was being pushed further and further away from God and what He wanted for me. I was too busy making someone else my savior and bible. I was at an all time low when it came to an end and what I didn't realize at that moment was that, when God closes one door he opens another.
But I had to surrender myself to the right person, and that right person is God. And when I surrendered myself to him completely, he healed me and he blessed me. When I was hungry, he fed me. When I was upset or scared, he used the most random people to give me scriptures of comfort. He opened the door that I thought would never open because honestly, I'm a sinner. I sin. And growing up, I was told that God hates sinners, that we were dammed to hell. And that terrified me so much I stayed in the dark.
However, when I  finally let go and just said "OK God, I give it all to you" He opened the door with so much love and warmth.
In Romans 5:8 God says: I love you even at your darkest. And that's when I realized that God doesn't hate sinners, nor are we dammed to hell. He loves us even at our most darkest of time. And he gave me so much love too, love that I thought was gone, love that I thought I would never have again after my mom died.
I not mad or angry with that person that put me in that situation because ultimately, they taught me just how strong I really am. I stopped relying on others and instead put faith in God and in myself. They forced me to have courage and to be brave even in the most scariest of situations. Because going from not believing and being angry in and with God to believing and forgiving is a pretty scary thing. I mean that's a pretty big deal and leap of faith.
I look at how far I've come and the things I've been able to accomplish since putting my trust and faith with God. I'll be truthful though, sometimes I wonder where I would be if I were still in that toxic environment. But truthfully, I'm thankful it ended when it did and how it did because I needed to be broken and my world turned upside down in order to turn to God and become the person that I need to be and who he wanted me to be.
Thank you God for loving me through my sin, through my darkest moments and through my brokenness.

God can restore what is broken
and change it into something amazing.
All you need is Faith.
Joel 2:25
